November OUTLOOK

Greetings and salutations, Southill Parish!

November is upon us, already, and it is rightly and truly the Month of Remembrance.

Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

Guy and his dastardly deed isn’t the only one we must call to mind, is it?  On the contrary, and quite separately, we spend the 11th of November calling to mind the thousands fallen for Crown and country in wars and conflicts past, especially in the 20th and 21st centuries.  We remember their sacrifices, their lives laid down for us.  It is not possible or necessary for every man, woman, and child to go off to war and fight for their respective lands and causes, so we have those who are willing to put themselves in harm’s way, so we don’t have to.  On Remembrance Sunday, this year, we remember those who in serving for us, died for us.  They laid down their lives, so we didn’t have to; we honour and thank them for their sacrifice made once and for all.

So, as we remember the infamous traitor and the thousands of servicemen and women who’ve gone off to fight but who have not returned to us alive, I pray that you also remember Jesus Christ.

Jesus of Nazareth, became for us the Christ, when he laid down His life for ours.  Instead of us paying for things we’ve done wrong to each other and possibly to God, Christ sacrificed Himself for us so we could be free from that burden.  It is written that God rejoices and the whole company of Heaven rejoices when even one person turns back to God and asks for forgiveness.  Jesus Christ made that possible.  We remember Him, as He told us to do at the Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion, or the Eucharist; we remember what Jesus did for us every time we eat the bread and drink the wine.

Every Sunday at 9:15am we remember our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we honour Him in our worship, and we give thanks to God for all the great things He does for us.  I pray that you keep these dates in your hearts and that you remember Guy, the fallen veterans, and Jesus Christ – Guy on the 5th, the fallen on the 11th, and Jesus always.

Your Vicar,

Mark-Aaron +
